Flashback: A photo of me at the very first Palm Tree Ride in 2005(!) taken by @steev.hise Just a reminder that the Palm Tree Ride is tomorrow! We ride in rain and not rain, so be prepared.
The premise, as always, is the same: A 7 to 10 mile casual bicycle ride (not a loop) explorin’ the palm trees around town. I also throw in some other exotics and evergreens, like eucalypts, madronas, yuccas, Oregon myrtles, and such. These trees and shrubs keep the city green through our grey and cool winter months, when all the deciduous trees have dropped their leaves. Seeing a bunch of them in the middle of winter brightens the mood, and reminds us that winter here may not be as bad as we feel.
We’ll be meeting up on Sunday January 26, 11 AM, in front of Palio Dessert and Espresso, 1996 SE Ladd Ave (on Ladd Circle). We ride rain or shine, so be prepared! (And hope that it’s not as wet as 2015 or 2019.) We’ll end at a spot where we can get food and adult beverages.
Hope you can join me!
It’s time for the never-ending sorting out what I need and don’t, and purging the don’t. Check out what I got, get in touch if you want.

-Velo Orange “Kraton” basket weave grips.
-Sony Walkman, WM-FX488. Cassette deck plus four band radio: AM/FM/Weather/VHF TV (fwiw). Battery door broken off, you can still power it if you rubber band the battery in the compartment. Radio works, don’t know about the tape deck.
-Saddle cover: White with blue bicycles, made by “Hippie Thread”. Fits a B17 snugly.
-Eton Raptor Radio. Emergency radio that is recharged either by solar panel or via USB. AM/FM/Weather. Antenna and clip have broken off, but radio still works. SOLD -Johnson fanny pack. Green check, comes with strap. (Came from Rivelo "garage sale" awhile back, I believe it was a Riv prototype.)
-Barska 10×25 waterproof binoculars/field glasses. Comes with case.
-REI Co-op Sit Pad. Self-inflating and insulated, no leaks as far as I can tell. 16.5 x 12 x 1.5 in. Packs to 3.5 x 8 in. Comes with packing pouch.
-Rustines Constructeur Grips, white rubber. Never mounted/used.
-Dia-Compe ENE water bottle cage. Stainless steel, has tabs so it can be mounted to frames without bosses (mounting equipment NOT included.)
-Velo Orange Leather Saddle. I believe it’s a Model 6 (VO don’t make ’em anymore), a narrow racy saddle that’s trimmed on the edges. Please note the “bulge” in the leather near the nose, hence the low price.
-Ideale faux-leather saddle. Nope, not leather, but a coated fabric, sort of like the Brooks Cambium but I can’t say for sure. Wider, touring style saddle comparable to a B-67/B-68. Wolber stamped on side.
