bike rides, pedalpalooza, sunset/moonrise

REMINDER: Sunset/Moonrise Ride is tomorrow, Monday June 17

We’re just halfway through Pedalpalooza. Time for one of my favorite regular summer rides, the Sunset/Moonrise Ride!

Did you know that on the night of the full moon, the sun sets roughly around the same time that the moon rises? We’ll ride about 5 miles to a mystery spot to see both. Meet me at 7 PM on Monday June 17th at Providore Fine Foods, 2340 NE Sandy Blvd. Stock up on supplies and libations, we’ll depart around 7:30 PM. Bring a blanket, extra layer, and lights for the ride home. Sunset 9:02 PM Moonrise 9:33 PM

A few special things to note:

  • This ride will NOT be hitting up the “regular” destination we’ve been going the last few years. So if you are running late, do not go to Broughton Beach, just see what I’m live tracking on my RideWithGPS for the update. My user name is adventurepdx
  • The destination will be a two-parter. We’ll stop to watch sunset, then ride another 5 minutes for the moonrise spot.

Can’t make it to this month’s Sunset/Moonrise Ride? I’ll be doing more throughout the summer! I should be doing one each month through October, as long as I’m in town and conditions are good. (Meaning: It’s clear out and hopefully Oregon isn’t on fire, since the point is to see sun set and moon rise.) I’ll post the official info (if it’s happening) closer to the date on the blog and Instagram. Those dates are the following:

  • Tuesday July 16
  • Thursday August 15
  • Friday September 13
  • Sunday October 13

Have Monday afternoon free? You should definitely check out the Sidewalk Stamp Ride, meeting at 4:45 PM at the NE corner of Sunnyside Park, SE 35th and Yamhill. This 5 1/2 mile tour of historical and hysterical sidewalk stamps is put on by SidewalkingPDX. And conveniently enough, the ride will end at Providore by 7 PM, just in time for the Sunset/Moonrise Ride!
